Tuberculous Mesenteric Lymphadenitis Simulating Cystic Pancreatic Head Cancer

چکیده
Diagnosis of abdominal tuberculosis can be difficult because of its protean manifestations. It is often not considered in the differential diagnosis of abdominal disorders, particularly when tuberculosis is not p'resent elsewhere. In the era of computed tomography, although there has been much improvement in the evaluation of abdominal disorders, the differential diagnosis of an abdominal mass, especially a pancreatic mass, could sometimes be a perplexing problem for clinicians. Here, we present a case with very unusual clinical and radiologic features whose diagnosis proved to be tuberculous mesenteric lymphadenitis simulating cystic pancreatic head cancer in its computed tomographic findings.

Posterior approach pancreaticoduodenectomy: does it really improve long-term survival in pancreatic head cancer?
We enjoyed reading the report by Kurosaki et al. on their experience with the left posterior approach to the superior mesenteric artery in a pancreaticoduodenectomy for pancreatic head cancer [1]. Since the retroportal lamina (containing lymphatic structures, small vessels and nerves) should be completely resected during a pancreaticoduodenectomy for pancreatic head cancer, dissection along the...

Cystic lymphangioma is a rare benign tumour occurring during childhood. This tumour, caused by lymphatic system malformations, commonly occurs in head and neck regions. Herein, we report the case of a three-month-old male infant, diagnosed with a large cystic mass in the abdominal cavity and groin. The infant presented with low-grade fever and significant abdominal distension. Abdominal CT scan...

متن کاملTuberculous lymphadenitis as a cause of obstructive jaundice.
Obstructive jaundice secondary to abdominal tuberculosis is extremely rare. We present a patient with jaundice secondary to compression of the common bile duct by TB lymphadenitis. A 49-year-old woman was admitted to our department for nausea, epigastric pain and jaundice. Abdominal ultrasonography and computer tomography scan were suggestive of stenosis of the distal common bile duct caused by ...
متن کاملIntra-Abdominal Tuberculous Lymphadenitis Diagnosed Using an Endoscopic Ultrasonography-Guided ProCore Needle Biopsy
Intra-abdominal tuberculous lymphadenitis can mimic a variety of other abdominal disorders such as pancreatic cancer, metastatic lymph nodes, or lymphoma, which can make a proper diagnosis difficult. A correct diagnosis of intra-abdominal tuberculous lymphadenitis can lead to appropriate management. Endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS)-guided needle biopsy may be the procedure of choice for tissue ...
